“We don’t care about trends or fashions. We try to be authentic and honest with our work and ourselves. Dance – alert, critical and bold – which is concerned with people, made by and for people.”

Toula Limnaios takes her highly motivated company on journeys into the darkest depths of existence. Feeling their way through stratum after stratum, people desperately reach out for, call out for, search for the other life within their own. The company’s wide range of dance pieces, from “irrsinn”, “the silencers” and “reading tosca” to “anderland”, reveal a fascinating thought process of contradictions. Strong imagery scene sequences about the dissolving of all security energy fields made from the fragments of broken egos, which evoke a sense of “us” that is purely fiction. “wut” is also a piece about the negative games people play, humiliating, manipulating and hindering each other to exhaustion in their private lives as well as in politics. In 2013 „the thing I am” and „if I was real” continued this core theme. Toula Limnaios and her international company, renewed and grown as an ensemble theatre over the years, have the unmistakeable potential to capture the changing otherness within us and around us in unique metaphors of movement and image. The plurality of contradictory processes within and between people that the choreography portrays is compellingly mounted and extended and intensified in a surprising manner by Ralf R. Ollertz’s associative musical soundscapes. It is this subtly associative relatedness of all the dramatic means that draws the viewer in to intensely observe, listen and contemplate and not be reduced to a passive voyeur. In an age of constant chatter, cie. toula limnaios creates dance theatre that addresses our existential voicelessness in these times of loquaciousness, giving people a voice to articulate their existential distress.
